Welcome back to the most wonderful time of the year. For 12 days I will introduce you to 12 amazing creators that are doing BIG things and creating. Showcasing others and building a supportive community is so close to my heart. I love supporting others and that was the inspiration behind this series.
Each year I am amazed by all the creators that want to share their time with me. As well seeing them create every day and want to share their love of art with others. Today we are meeting a musician that you are going to be finding yourself listening to everyday. I got to ask him a few questions about music and what he is creating.
hi! i’m VHS ghost, I’m a lofi bedroom pop artist living in Portland, Oregon.
What does your band name mean and where did it come from?
It was something I picked when I didn’t have any better ideas but is also authentic to myself. I’ve always loved spooky things, ghost videos and horror movies along with the old VHS aesthetic. Makes me feel very nostalgic.
What is your creative process?
It’s always changing and evolving. I try to only do it when I truly feel up to it. I want my music to feel authentic and fully put myself into whatever i’m creating! it has to make me feel something.
Who inspired you to start playing and making music?
One of my biggest inspirations is the artist, “current joys” he gives it his all in his music and especially his live performances and it’s very inspiring to me.
Why is art important to our society?
It’s so important. It brings comfort for me to hear a song knowing I’m not alone in whatever I’m feeling, good or bad. Music has gotten me through a lot of rough times and I hope my music can do that for other people.
Before we move on to our next question, I have to share with you how I was introduced to you. Last year a creator was on this series and through someone using their music also uses yours. I am going to therapy for healing and growth from things that had happen to me in the past. When I heard your music I felt like I AM going to heal and become a new person. It really put inspiration in me. I reached out to you to see if maybe would be interested to do 12 days. Then you responded and said yes and I knew we this is right. You are inspiring others and I’m so glad you could share your music with us.
We are at the end of our questions What would you say is the best advise you could give someone looking to start creating?
The best advice I would give is to find what makes you truly happy and try to not worry about numbers. Numbers don’t determine if your art has value or not.
